"No cutting and No drilling" on WAAG 1 Piece Grille Guard, is that really the case?
Yes. Waag Grille Guards are engineered so to utilize existing factory mounting locations and avoid cutting your front bumper, particularly the front fascia. For example, WAAG uses a innovated “elevated frame mount” on the Ford Expedition/F150 that fits both 4x4s and 2x4 trucks and eliminates the need for cutting or drilling regardless of model. With many competitive brands, it is necessary to not only cut the fascia on a 2x4 truck, but also to drill into the frame because Ford 2x4s do not come equipped with two hooks.

WAAG is always touting "Bolt-on, No cutting or drilling." Why is that so important?
There are several reasons it is vital: First and foremost, cutting and drilling, in many cases, can void a vehicle manufacturer rust warranty, which is a major concern for consumers in areas with seasonal snow fall and salted roads. From a consumer/installer standpoint, “bolt on, no cutting and drilling” offers several advantages: First, “bolt on” is almost always an easier installation and requires no guesswork on the part of the installer. Second, no cutting and drilling requires no special tools or modification of the vehicle. Finally, because WAAG utilizes factory mounting locations, our guards consistently mount evenly on the vehicle with little or no adjustment.

Can you provide any technical information on your grille guards regarding tubing size and gauge?
WAAG Grille guards are made with 1/4” steel plates. The wrap-arounds are made of 1.5 O.D cold-rolled, 16 gauge round tubing. Clearance tubes are made with 1.5” O.D., .090 gauge round tubing. The headlight grilles are 5/16” cold-rolled solid rods. We use vinyl moulding on the plates, which will not fade or crack was would rubber moulding.

What is the difference between straight and bent plates? Is it cosmetic or are there structural concerns?
WAAG is committed to making what looks best on any given truck/SUV. The difference in the guards is purely a design choice by WAAG. Both straight and bent plate guards are built to the same demanding standards that WAAG sets. We feel that if a vehicle would be better enhanced by a guard with bent plates, such as a Mercedes Benz ML320/430, then we bend them. Some vehicles do not lend themselves to such a look and are designed with straight plates.

WAAG is the only company that offers “clearance tubes” on some grille guards. What’s so special about them?
Clearance tubes serve a variety of purposes. First, they often are designed for a grille guard to eliminate the need to cut the lower bumper fascia. Second, the tubes preserve ground clearance and finally, we feel that the the clearance tubes offer a unique and rugged styling feature.

Do you have any information on how grille guards affect deployment of air bags?
There is no conclusive or comprehensive data at this time regarding air bags deployment and opinions vary to say the least. Some vehicle manufacturers, most notably Ford, Nissan and GM offer a factory grille guard for some of their trucks, so you may be able to draw your own conclusions from that. We consider our guard a medium-strength guard, suitable for pushing a vehicle, but one that will crush in an accident.

Ford offers several vehicle packages, Expeditions and F150s — standard, limited, sport, Eddie Bauer, Lariat, Harley Davidson. Does your guard fit all of them?
Yes. Our guard, regardless of model, for the 1995-2001 Explorer fits all four-door vehicles up to 2001 and two-door Explorer up to 2000. We have a different guard for the 2001 Explorer Sport/Sport Trac and a separate one for the redesigned 2002 Explorer. As for the Expedition, we have one guard for the 97-98 model and one for the 99-2002 model. The lone exception is the F150 Lightning, which would require cutting the factory bumper to install.
